TRIO Supportive Educational Services

Supportive Educational Services is a federally funded TRiO Program known nationally as Student Support Services. Our goal is to assist eligible students to obtain their undergraduate degrees. All of our services are free and aimed at helping our participants be successful at The University of Kansas. You MUST apply and be accepted to the program.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Be a U.S. Citizen or a permanent resident
  • Be accepted for enrollment or currently enrolled at KU
  • Demonstrate academic need
  • Demonstrate high motivation to successfully complete your coursework

You must also meet any one of the following criteria:

  • A first-generation college student (neither of your parents has received a four-year college bachelor's degree)
  • Low-income according to federal guidelines
  • Have a documented disability through Disability Resources

Services offered:

  • TRiO Grant: small grant for eligible participants
  • Tutoring: Individual peer tutoring and Math and English Drop-In Labs
  • Academic Advising: Our coordinators are adjunct advisors for the UAC
  • Career Counseling: Explore majors and careers
  • Financial Aid Counseling: Assistance with FASFA, verification, and appeals
  • Cultural events: Potlucks, Lied Center ticket raffle, and group outings
  • Workshops: study skills, financial aid, KU system
  • Resource Library: Text and reference book for 2-week check out
  • Computer Lab: Open 8-5
  • Laptop check-out program

  1. Complete the application; provide requested documentation.
  2. Check your email for notification of acceptance
  3. Schedule an informal intake interview with a Support Services Coordinator.
